Clubs and Community
St Johns Park Bowling Club is excited to announce we were a finalist in the 2015 ClubsNSW Clubs & Community Awards – Heart of the Community Award.
Our Women’s Bowling Club is not just about friendships, sportsmanship and the game of lawn bowls, this energetic group of ladies also work throughout the year to raise funds for The Children’s Hospital Westmead. In December 2014, the ladies presented a cheque to The Children’s Hospital Westmead valued at over $1,500, bringing the total donations made to the Hospital by the Club to $50,000 since 2005.
The money is raised by the St Johns Park Women’s Bowling Club through raffles and other fundraising activities throughout the year. So far, $27,500 has gone to the Oncology Department to support children with cancer. Donations also go towards decorating the walls with cheerful murals, creating beautiful gardens and of course some toys.
The Children’s Hospital provides life-saving care to thousands of sick children every year, and funds ground breaking research into the causes and cures of childhood illnesses. The funds raised also help to employ the best specialist staff, purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment and technology to establish vital support services for families in their greatest time of need.
Clubs are the heart of every community, providing local groups and charities with much needed support. However, the considerable contribution clubs make to their local communities often goes unnoticed and their stories untold. With 42,000 employees, 5.7 million club members, and close to 50,000 volunteers across New South Wales, it’s time to let these stories shine.
