MAKE A DIFFERENCE, MAKE SOMEONE SMILE, DO SOMETHING!
Join in Australia’s biggest celebration of volunteering in our communities as we recognise the extraordinary contributions made by our everyday locals. Be inspired and give back by volunteering, making a donation or carrying out a simple random act of kindness on Wednesday 19 July 2017.
For the inaugural Do Something! Day last year, St Johns Park Bowling Club baked hundreds of pies and sausage rolls in Baking Room and delivered them to Youth Off The Streets (YOTS) Fairfield Outreach. Sammy & Bella from MKR baked a ‘humble pie’, former Bulldogs legend Terry Lamb demonstrated his skills in the kitchen and baked a ‘Lamb Pie’, The GWS Giants even came along to show us their cooking skills.
In the lead up to Do Something! Day, St Johns Park Bowling Club will be holding our fifth annual Bowls & Luncheon Charity day to raise funds for State Emergency Services (SES), on 6 July 2017. Over the years, more than $60,000 has been raised at these events and we are expecting a full house again this year.
SES is a volunteer based organisation that provides emergency assistance to the people of NSW 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. It has approximately 9,000 volunteers across the state that make it possible. These volunteers are united by the purpose of supporting their communities in times of need including road accident rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats.
We have also teamed up with Build a Bear and invited our friends from Share Care to a special workshop where they will bring their very own fury friend to life. They will be making these bears with love for their favourite person (could be a carer, parent, friend or sibling of their choice), and will hand their creations over to their new owners in a special Appreciation Presentation to celebrate Do Something! Day on Wednesday 19 July 2017.
Share Care is a service which has evolved and grown with the needs of our community. From humble beginnings in 1982, starting with very simple programs and services to assist parents of children with disabilities. Today, Share Care services over 450 families per week, each caring for a child or young person with a disability. Programs and services offered by Share Care are diverse, focusing on offering support programs to enhance the opportunities and learning of people with a disability, and offering a well-deserved break to parents of their clients.
St Johns Park Bowling Club is a proud partner of Share Care, offering various means of support, both in cash and kind, from paying the rent for their nearby administration offices, to sponsoring camps and hosting special celebrations for clients and their carers.
